A Resolution

The idea appeared to be the solution to so many of the City of Danville’s problems. It offered a glimmer of hope to turn the once-industrial town in East Central Illinois into a main attraction between Chicago and St. Louis.

It was not to be.

Conservationists fought to protect the Middle Fork River from becoming a boating lake, and they reached out to thousands of individuals across the state of Illinois.

Legislators on the state and federal levels got involved in the fight in hopes of bringing about a swift and lasting resolution.

The bitter fight was so tumultuous that 30-plus years later, the Middle Fork is still a touchy subject in the area.
