Looking Downstream
Before the Committee on the Middle Fork there was the Committee on Allerton Park. Founded in response to another proposed dam on the Sangamon River that would have flooded Allerton Park, the committee remained relatively inactive after the proposal was defeated and the Middle Fork took center stage.
The organization is alive and well today operating under greater auspices of protecting rivers, wetlands, wildlife and natural habitats across the state of Illinois and the name Prairie Rivers Network.
