Help Map Illinois’ Wetlands
The Illinois Chapter of the Sierra Club has teamed with Ducks Unlimited to update the inventory of wetlands in the state. Ducks Unlimited (DU) is identifying wetlands from aerial photographs; they then need help in verifying their work through field visits to 2% of the identified wetlands. DU anticipates that nearly 6000 wetlands will need to be visited across the state over the next two years. Volunteers can be trained to perform these field IDs.
The first training session will be held on Saturday, April 4 from 9:30 am -12:30 pm at the Aurora Public Library West Branch. If you live in the northern part of the state (above I-80) and are interested in helping with this project, you are encouraged to attend this training session. The Aurora Library West Branch is located at 233 S. Constitution Drive, just 2 1/2 miles south of the I-88 & Orchard Road interchange. Future trainings will be held throughout the state as DU completes their inventory work.
Please RSVP to cindy.skrukrud@sierraclub.org or jennifer.hensley@sierraclub.org if you would like to attend the April 4 training session. Also let us know if you live in other parts of the state and would like us to let you know when a training session will be held in your area.
