Water Resources Development Act
The federal Water Resources Development Act is a far reaching document that
authorizes many important river-related actions on the Illinois and
Mississippi Rivers and elsewhere in the State. Because it is a complex
piece of legislation, it is difficult for the layperson to follow. This
document helps to clarify and inform the reader regarding the differences.
Illinois River Basin Restoration Report Finalized
The US Army Corps of Engineers, working with the Illinois Department of
Natural Resources, completed the "Illinois River Basin Restoration
Comprehensive Plan with Integrated Environmental Assessment," dated Marc
2007. The report recommends that the Illinois River Basin Restoration
Program be continued and expanded to more fully address the restoration
needs of this nationally significant resource. As a first step in the
implementation of the recommended plan, the report recommends $131.2 million
in funding to plan, design, and construct 16 Critical Restoration Projects.
The final report is available for viewing on the study's website at

Clean Water Tip of the Day
Repair leaks in your faucets and toilets. To find out if your toilet leaks,
put a little food coloring in tank. If color appears in the bowl without
flushing, you have a leak that should be repaired.1 Leaky toilets could
waste up to 200 gallons each day.
