Saturday, September 15, 2007 is It's Our River Day (IORD)!

Celebrated on the third Saturday in September, IORD is a celebration of
Illinois Watershed through education, recreation and conservation.  

Education, recreation and conservation are important components of the way
that we interact with our rivers, and provide opportunities for protecting
them.  These components connect us to our local rivers' ecosystem.  It is
important to keep the history and culture of life along the river alive, to
continue efforts to address the threats against it's health, and to provide
new and innovative ways to provide access to the waterways for recreation.

With this in mind, communities and organizations are invited to celebrate
their river by offering citizens a chance to experience, learn and
contribute to the health of the watershed by providing organized activities
annually on the third Saturday in September.

Last year we had over 60 IORD events across the State.  These events
included river clean ups, canoe/kayaking trips, educational booths at
festivals, fundraisers, recycling days, and much more.  Help us make this
year bigger and better by planning an event today.  Please visit

Let us know about your IORD event by filling out and returning the attached
information sheet.  Your IORD event will then be publicized on the Lt.
Governor's Clean Water website and join dozens of other events across the
state as potential activities for Illinois citizens who want to celebrate
It's Our River Day.

in having an IORD event or to those who may already have a river/water
related event scheduled for September 15, 2007.
