     Welcome to the Prairie Rivers Network's May 2007 E-Newz and thank you for subscribing. We're excited to keep communities informed about volunteer opportunities, clean water issues, and river conservation news within our state. 

      Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'
      Show your support for Prairie Rivers Network by joining us August 25th for Rolling on the River, a benefit event for a more clean and healthy environment. You can help us meet a match for grant funds by saying you heard about Rolling on the River from Prairie Rivers Network. The event will be near Yorkville in the scenic Fox River Valley. Cyclists have their choice of five rides from ten to one hundred miles. Not a cyclist? Join others for kayaking, canoeing and Nordic walking. Campsites will be available.       Pet Waste and Clean Water
      Pet waste can directly affect the quality of our waterways if not handled correctly.  If the waste is left to decay on the sidewalk or lawn, it can be carried into storm drains by water from rain or melted snow.  The water entering these storm drains does not travel to a sewage treatment plant.  Instead, this water is carried directly into our waterways, bringing with it pollutants picked up along the way.
