Conceiving a Plan

In order to accommodate a reservoir, the Vermilion County Conservation District had to start acquiring land along the river.

Much of this land today is overgrown, full of bramble patches, trees, and the rogue home appliance.

But before its current state, this land belonged to families and farmers many of whom grudgingly sold their land to make way for the new recreational lake.

In the end, some homes were lost, some were saved. Conservationists had to make compromises, and the city of Danville had to swallow a bitter pill.
