When the Middle Fork River was declared a National Wild and Scenic River in 1989, the Illinois Power Co. owned the stretch of land that bisected the river corridor.

The power plant, now owned by Dynegy Power, supplies part-time power to Vermilion County.

In 2005, Attorney General Lisa Madigan worked with Dynegy Power to settle some Clean Air Act violations.

In doing so, the stretch of land owned by the power company on the east side of the Middle Fork was given to the state of Illinois.
