Keynote Speaker: Gene Karpinski, president of the League of Conservation Voters
With the historic political gridlock in Washington, D.C., this evening will focus on the implications of the federal government’s current work surrounding environment issues and public health. Gene will discuss the urgent need for mobilization around local and regional environmental policies to protect clean water, air and lands for future generations.
Gene Karpinski became president of the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and the LCV Education Fund in 2006 and is himself an indefatigable exemplar of the LCV’s mission to turn environmental values into national priorities. To secure the environmental future of our planet, LCV advocates for sound environmental policies, elects pro-environment candidates who will adopt and implement such policies, provides the state LCVs with the resources and tools to accomplish and sustain their mission. Before becoming LCV’s president, Gene spent 21 years as executive director of the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (US PIRG), during which time he served on LCV and LCV Education Fund boards. He has also served on the boards of Earth Share, the Partnership Project, the Beldon Fund, and the National Association for Public Interest Law.
