In 2023, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity allocated $40 million in Energy Transition Community Grants across over 50 communities in Illinois. These grants, created by the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act, are intended to support communities with closing fossil fuel power plants, coal mines, or nuclear power plants.
