After an extensive public search process, we are pleased to announce that Maggie Bruns has been selected to lead Prairie Rivers Network as its new Executive Director, effective January 3, 2023.
Maggie has almost 20 years of experience working on local, state, and federal environmental campaigns and programs. Most recently, Maggie’s tenure at the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) in Washington, DC, included managing the executive office and serving as liaison to the board of directors, directing and mentoring grassroots organizers, leading multi-million dollar fundraising campaigns, and transforming LCV’s communication strategies to authentically engage a wider, more diverse audience through a cultural lens.
As Executive Director, Maggie will work closely with the PRN board, staff, members, and partners to carry out our mission. She is ready to help implement historic legislation like Illinois’ Climate and Equitable Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act to help make our communities more resilient in the coming years. We are particularly excited because Maggie got her start in environmental advocacy when she volunteered for PRN while a student at the University of Illinois. Now, she has returned to her roots to lead PRN to a bigger, bolder future as we work to protect water, heal the land, and inspire the change that both science and justice require of us in this moment.
