Pesticide drift harms trees, plants, and poses health risks–especially for children playing nearby. The Pesticide Notice Schools Bill (HB 1596) helps schools , daycares, and park administrators stay informed and take precautions against pesticide exposure.
What does this bill do?
The Pesticide Notice Schools Bill (HB1596) requires advanced notification to schools, child care centers, playgrounds, and parks nearby large-scale application of pesticides. Large-scale pesticide application is when pesticides are being applied using large equipment like boom sprayers airplanes or tractor-mounted devices, as determined by the Department of Agriculture. Written notification must be provided 24-72 hours in advance to ensure proper safety measures can be taken.
This commonsense, science-backed measure prioritizes public health, environmental safety, and transparency. Illinois families deserve the right to know when pesticides are being applied near their schools and public spaces.
