Numerous farms, businesses, and homes in our community (Illinois 16th District) have benefited from federal climate and energy funding, but these programs are now at risk.
Over the next several weeks, Congress will take up the budget reconciliation process, giving them the opportunity to roll back critical climate and clean energy funding and programs. We need Congressman LaHood to hear from you today to ensure that climate investments and environmental protections like the ones listed below are not on the chopping block.
Environmental protections that are at stake:
- Clean Energy Tax Credits have helped lower bills, boost manufacturing, and increase energy independence for Illinois homeowners, businesses, and communities.
- The Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) has promised over $35 million in 2024 for energy projects in the 16th District, helping farmers and businesses save on energy costs.
- Federal funding and expertise are crucial for cleaning up thousands of acres of abandoned mine lands and other brownfield sites in the district, including sites like the Dixon Iron & Metal Co. brownfield site.
- The Clean School Bus Program has funded school buses for five local school districts, reducing pollution and protecting children’s health.
- Jo Carroll Energy Rural Electric Cooperative was part of Dairyland Power Cooperative’s $579 million New ERA Grant, supporting jobs and reducing costs.
Now is the time to put pressure on Congressman LaHood. Let him know that cuts to clean energy incentives are not in the best interest of this community.
