Across the country, ratepayers, our power grid, and our climate are facing unprecedented threats. Our outdated power grid is increasingly at risk from the impacts of climate change and intensifying extreme weather events, and these challenges are exacerbated by the Trump administration’s attacks on clean energy progress. The result: volatile energy markets that increase costs for ratepayers and threaten reliability.
Illinois, once again, has the opportunity to lead the nation towards a clean energy future with affordable, reliable energy. Clean energy resources like energy efficiency, solar, and battery storage strengthen our power grid, deliver ratepayer savings, and grow Illinois’ clean energy economy. The Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability Act (SB2473/HB3779) prioritizes commonsense solutions that protect ratepayers from price volatility, bolster our grid with clean energy resources, requires transparency and energy planning for municipal electric utilities and rural electric cooperatives, and hold utilities and large industrial energy users, like data centers, accountable for achieving a clean and affordable electric grid.
