Big Tech corporations are lining up to cash in on the race to build AI data centers across Illinois, ignoring the concerns of local communities and snapping up dangerously large amounts of water and energy without paying their fair share. These energy- and water-intensive facilities are already increasing home utility bills, polluting our air, threatening our water supply, and straining Illinois’ climate goals–and many more are coming.
Illinoisans deserve good neighbors who pay their fair share and contribute more to our communities than they take. The POWER Act (SB4016/HB5513) will provide nation-leading guardrails that protect our water, energy, ratepayers, and frontline communities.
The spring legislative session unfortunately ended in Illinois without passing the POWER Act, leaving our water, energy, and communities vulnerable to ongoing data center developments. Big Tech may have breathed a sigh of relief, but unfortunately for them, PRN, our partners, and our members are no strangers to multi-year efforts when it comes to holding polluters accountable. And we’re not giving up this time either!
Even if you took action this past spring, it’s time to make your voice heard again.
Take action today! Send a message to contact your legislators and urge them to support and pass the POWER Act during the veto session this fall.
