The Mahomet Aquifer is the sole source of drinking water for nearly one million people across 14 counties in Central Illinois. But this critical water source is under threat from carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) projects that risk contaminating the aquifer and its recharge areas.
Prairie Rivers Network is leading the effort to stop CCS projects and ensure the safety of the Mahomet Aquifer for generations to come. We are advocating for a legislative ban to protect this vital resource from the dangers of carbon storage.
